Jaco Costa Rica
Little late posting this but here’s an update about my squads time in Jaco where we were a month ago. Everyone did ministry of all sorts from feeding the homeless, painting light posts around town, painted a skate park, hung out with kids each Friday teaching them how to surf, and some jobs around our base.
The homeless feeding was probably my favorite because we got to go hangout with them for the whole day and grow relationships with them by playing soccer, basketball, checkers, chess, and drawing with them. We got to give them food and hear their stories about how they accepted Christ.

My team parted from our squad for individual team ministry for two weeks. We bonded over this time and became so close with one other. Our ministry hosts had a huge green house that we got to Garden in for two hours each morning, then we evangelized at night, and then got to do kids ministry for the times in between. The hosts had two foster kids who were 6 years old and if you know me I was going crazy when I saw them looking out the window when we arrived. The kids made my day each day and we got to play multiple handshake games, draw, and teach them English. When evangelizing we got to pray over multiple people and see God show them so much hope and happiness again. They hadn’t felt those emotions in so long and they were so thankful for what we were doing. I got sick during our first weekend there for four days and all I wanted to be was at home and finding comfort in my family but the lord taught me to find comfort in him instead. He also taught me how to press into his love and word in all the hard moments.

When we arrived back with our squad it was constantly talking of the work God did in our lives and all the ministry we did over the two weeks. We settled in and then started ministry around the base that our host needed us to do. It consisted of putting shingles on the roof, raking leaves around base, rolling logs, organizing a supply closest, digging an 8 foot hole, fixing a bus, and so many other small things our teams got split into doing. We did that for a week and then did kids ministry on Christmas Eve which made being away from home ten times better. We got to distribute clothes, play soccer with them, and feed them food. We did town ministry the next week and just went and shared the gospel in multiple different stores and create relationships with the store owners. Then, on New Year’s Eve we got to bring in the New Year by worshiping in the streets and just screaming the Lords love at the top of our lungs and also talking to people who came up and watched. We also told them about the Lord. Through all the homesickness around this season we got to depend on what God has in store for us in the next year and knowing that it’s all coming from his love and him comforting us.
